Charles and Kontiki Cultural Women Empowerment in partnership with The Samaritan Foundation Inc. would like to present community sewing with tie-dye program and fashion runway and exhibitions. A 3-year community project targeting Africans, Burmese, Tibetans and diverse communities. The project will use the process of creating artistic fashion designs utilizing gara and batik ink tie-dye techniques.
The concept behind this project is to empower women from new and emerging communities with skills through training and to host a fashion runway exhibition with different cultural groups. We aim to train, promote and support.
The project is expected to be beneficial to the local community and participants' residence by generating income, building the capacity of women, especially young people, in leadership training. Teaching participants professional clothing design, pattern making, sewing techniques, tie-dye batik and fabric painting. By learning how to develop and present design concept, sew prototypes and and create garments to completion stage. This will enable them to become self-empowered, self-sustained and improve their standard of living, build their confidence and self-esteem and break the cycle of social isolation. Participants will gain knowledge and confidence that can aid them to gain employment.
