Rainwatchers is a not for profit community rainfall monitoring program for all of Victoria and beyond. Rainwatchers are people who record rainfall data which is stored through smartphone application and/or website. In times of flood or drought the Rainwatchers network becomes a useful source of data and information about what is happening on the ground. Rainwatchers support the formal weather monitoring networks (e.g. BoM) across Victoria. Rainwatchers help to fill the gaps and provide additional understanding of the spatial and temporal distribution of rain.

Over time the data provided by Rainwatchers will develop trends and patterns that can be compared to and integrated within other weather monitoring networks. In regional Victoria there are often big gaps between government weather stations.
Also there can be large variations in rainfall from one farmers paddock to the next. Rainwatchers help describe better where the rain has fallen and how much.
Rainwatchers will collect and upload their daily rainfall data via a smartphone app, the website or manually submitting to Rainwatchers HQ. Through the website, the data will be transformed onto a regional and state map.
