This Project will see the disused Rail Line ( 1.3kms) & surrounding land ( 11.1HA) through the town centre to the Glenelg River at Fort O'Hare, transformed from an untidy fire hazard into a community walking/bicycle track & open space area which will be enjoyed by residents as well as visitors to our town. The line will be cleared of debris, prepared & asphalted with suitable access points created to allow access by people of all abilities including disabled access. Also included will be exercise stations, signage, tables & seats with appropriate trees being planted in the open space.
This project will be great asset to the entire community as it will provide an area that can be enjoyed by people of all ages and abilities. For those who enjoy exercise and activity the walking/bicycle track will be ideal, while the open space area will provide a peaceful area in a natural environment that can be enjoyed by everyone. The signage will inform of the history of the rail land area including the now disused line. This project will also see this land that has been a fire hazard and unsightly area developed into a community asset.
