It is the only athletics facility in the City of Wyndham. It is used by over 20,000 people during the year. Currently there are four permanent tenants at the facility; • a little athletics centre (affiliated to Little athletics Victoria), • a soccer club and, • two senior athletics clubs (affiliated to Athletics Victoria). Besides these, it is also used by • regional athletics competiitons • local primary and secondary schools for carnivals/competitions, • members of the community for recreational physical activity • health and wellbeing groups • ethnic groups conducting community events, and "Relay for Life" Annual Event.
We believe that this area is currently underused; with improved design this area can convert into a multi-purpose training cum-spectator area which will provide increased community access.
This project seeks to extend the existing roof cover and install a rubberised surface underneath (for running, walking or folded chair seating). Currently there is no shelter from the sun and/or wind and rain. Extended cover will provide overhead protection, seating for spectators and an undercover exercise training area during inclement weather.
It will also encourage spectators, athletes and visitors to get closer to the action!
