We have raised funds for all parts of the building upgrade want to include a lift. The whole project includes a renovation and expansion of the female change rooms, creation of a family/accessible change room and first aid room. These are required to support the rapid growth in female and junior participation. By adding a lift we will be able to provide safe access to the wider community for meetings, bridge, funky dancing, Pilates, yoga, functions such as Red Cross lunches, Probus talks, primary school graduations etc. The community will have free access for most of these activities.

Currently no suitable venues exist in our community for the above groups to meet or participate in their activities without excluding the senior, less able people and parents with prams in our community, as they are unable to access the building. The redevelopment of the building to include a lift solves this problem. Currently some of these groups have to travel to venues outside the community.
A lift will also solve a health and safety risk as currently all equipment, food and drink supplies are carried up and down the stairs by volunteers, most of whom are 65+.

The lift will cater for the needs of families and those with disabilities in an aging and young community. This beautiful space with views over Westernport bay will be accessible to those who might otherwise not have access to such facilities in Somers.

A really worthwhile project, not just for club members but for the Community at Large. The club hosts activities and is used for meetings by the local school, CFA, Probus as well as yoga, dance, pilates and bridge enthusiasts. When completed, so many more people will have access to these facilities.

An important social and sporting facility in the local community. The addition will enable greater access to members of the community, ensuring those who cannot use the current upstairs clubroom will be able to do so.

The Somers Yacht Club is a beacon for the local community of Somers and those who reside in the surrounding areas. Although I have only personally been blessed with visiting the Yacht Club a handful of times, it became quickly evident how vitally important this facility is in bringing people together. It's hard to put into words the experience of enjoying a refreshing, ice cold beverage whilst gazing out over the stunning Western Port from the Yacht Club, however at these moments it is also difficult to rationalise that some members of the wider community are currently denied access to the building and thus the opportunity to fully appreciate the wonder of the Club. As someone who is passionate about inclusion, it is imperative that this lift upgrade proceed so that we ensure that the Somers Yacht Club remains a space that is easily accessible for all members of the community to come together. As highlighted, no alternative meeting place is available for the elderly and those less-abled individuals who live in Somers to meet . Installing a lift at the Somers Yacht Club is the project that this community needs to move forward together.

The Club was a huge part of my childhood and is responsible for a huge amount of amazing memories. It links me strongly with my grandparents, cousins, siblings and friends. It is also a crucial hub for the Somers community to come together and facilitates the amazing Peninsula hospitality that we all love.
The Club needs to be accessible for everyone and this project would allow it to support everyone, no matter their mobility.

The Somers Yacht Club is a very important community facility and this lift will give improved access to all members of the community. The lift will improve the utilisation of the hall area on level 2 by giving disabled access. It is important to note that this is the only hall facility in Somers and improved access to this facility will allow for more inclusive community activities.

This will provide access to older members of the club who are no longer able to use stairs. It is very important to keep these people interested in th e community.
