An upgrade of the hall complex (50% average weekday occupancy) has become a necessity to provide appropriate and safe access and facilities for members of the Oakleigh community. This includes construction of an internal ramp and toilet wing with disabled facilities and baby change space.
The hall complex services many diverse community groups, including: addiction and disability support groups; dance and singing schools; as well as drama, music and art exhibitions, playgroup and mainly music sessions catering weekly to around 500 people.
Currently the hall complex is ageing and suffers from inadequate, deteriorating toilets, poor disability access and insufficient insulation.
Oakleigh/Chadstone; (circa 30,000 people) has few openly hireable community halls. This complex is in a prominent and easily accessible location near Chadstone creating high demand.
This project will create a safe, comfortable and modernised complex, with a capacity for more than 600 people. It will meet all Childsafe and disability access standards, providing three distinct, hireable hall spaces for the use and enjoyment of the community. Especially as children and those with disabilities comprise over 85% of current hall usage.
The proposed improvements to accessibility and usability are geared to meet the evolving needs of this growing and vibrant community.

The vast majority of people who make use of this facility have little if anything to do with the attached church (although the church uses it too!). This project is primarily about making the site safer for the hundreds of people in the broader community who already use it.
