Over four years the Riverside Community Garden (Yarra Trail, Heidelberg) has grown to become a recognised part of the local community by creating a welcoming, productive, and attractive open garden, enjoyed by members, visitors and passersby. The Garden partners with local sustainability groups and has created a community compost hub.

The garden is ready to expand in response to significant community interest, but more infrastructure is needed. Signs, displays, shade-giving pergola, bee facilities and practical tools such as a bike repair station, will attract visitors and the local community. Also enabling community workshops and a regular community 'Food Swap'.

The community will gain a greater connection to the environment and each other through educational hands-on workshops that engage and inspire a wide variety of people to live more sustainably. They will be empowered to take on new challenges, including a love of gardening and development of local food sources - engaging with composting, bees and creative recycling. Yarra Trail users and visitors will gain an educational and beautiful resting place and bike repair station. Community members and visitors will connect, learn, grow and be refreshed.

Great bunch of people at Riverside Community Garden in Heidelberg. There is a Community Compost Hub accepting kitchen veg scraps, vegetable and flower garden plots, bee hives and a hot house for plant propagation. Some of the new projects include a relaxing resting site for users of the Main Yarra Trail, a bike repair station and workshops to demonstrate practical sustainability.

Sounds great. But I am having trouble finding how to actually vote for this idea. I have the link to the website provided by Jon , but can't find how to do it. Cheers Sharon

The Riverside Garden is such a great place to be any day of the week. It ticks all of the wellbeing boxes. There's always someone in the garden - it has become a great place to meet up with like-minded people.
