Cranbourne is an area that is growing with many people from diverse backgrounds moving into the area. Many houses are on small allotments and people do not have the space to create sustainable vegetable and food gardens. I would like to see a community garden created at Cranbourne Community House which is central and accessible to all residents. The garden would be open all hours to the community with individual garden beds that members of the community could use. They could grow a variety of vegetables, herbs and fruit. The garden would be a community asset.

Not only do community gardens draw people together from various backgrounds, age, race, culture and social class, they also grow more than food – the involvement in social community usually leads to long term relationships among people that might not ordinarily ‘network.’ The seeds of change are planted in the ground, but also through fostering new generations of mindful individuals. The community garden would allow people from diverse backgrounds to work side-by-side on common goals without speaking the same language. It would allow families and individuals without land of their own the opportunity to produce food.

This would be a perfect project for this area, as intended it would be shared and promoted for the use of the community members.
