Djembe drumming programs are free for participants in support of a healthier community. The program will support vulnerable members of our community by sharing knowledge, skills and social interactions.
Two groups will target vulnerable and elderly individuals isolated from their communities by encouraging participation in these social activities. These sessions will operate before and during work times to support involvement.
Participants will build a broad range of skills through drumming technique, exercises, games, repetition and rehearsal with other members in a circle. Performances at the center will share the courage and talents drummers master through the program.
Many published studies explore the success of drumming programs within communities. This program addresses the need to connect isolated people to their community by providing physiological, psychological and social benefits from safe drumming circle activities.
The real magic behind djembe drumming is it's inclusive nature, support and equality in belonging to a circle.
Accessibility in playing the drum immediately, reduces initial anxieties. Three key prominent sounds, help players to quickly focus on the mindfulness of rhythm, while supporting and accepting other group members. Healthy, social connections will start to form, encouraging participants to live their natural beat within the community.
