Having lived in Northern Europe and raced Cross I think the Warragul area would benefit greatly from a Cyclocross facility. The short course nature of Cyclocross is great for spectators and would be ideally sited at the existing velodrome. Being closer to the CBD would no doubt have a positive effect on the local economy during events.

Warragul Cycling Club currently has a track cycling facility. The current track is the location of the clubrooms and facilities of the club, which allows for track cycling races. The club also runs road racing for the club and inter club events.
I am proposing a project to build a cycling cross track neighbouring the existing track to enable multiple types of cycling events throughout the year. Cross cycling is all through the year and very strong throughout the winter season.
The facility would be available to the public, except when race events are held.
The benefit to the local community is that the facility would: increase participation in cycling in general in the local area; allow community access all year around; bring wider participation into our local community when events are held from other cycling clubs throughout Victoria. The facility will encourage participation from all ages and demographics in the community in a safe environment.

This project would be a great asset to the community for a safe (off the road) facility for family involvement with cycling as well as for a major benefit for the Warragul Cycling Club to run X-country events for all age groups/grades which would put Warragul on the map with the growth of this sport in Gippsland.

The area has a strong cycling community but not many safe places to ride. This will help fill the void help reinforce the need for change on the roads.
