Very willing to support this project. So much more than 'just a craft shop'. These lovely ladies already provide a friendly, inclusive environment which adds to the well being of all their visitors, including previously disengaged community members. Funding will allow many more opportunities for engagement through craft.
Community bonding and creative wellness program.
Affordable craft lessons and group crafty catch ups.

Unwind is a craft cafe in Keilor East, it was established in 2014 by Robyn Scipione to combine her love of community, creativity, and cooking. More people need to unwind, and would benefit from lessons and creative catch ups. The costs are prohibitive for a lot of people. We would like funding to enhance our learning area, and add a technological classroom to cut teaching costs. We could then facilitate more classes with less teachers. We would also like to offer more creative catch ups, but doing them without a cost is a financial burden, so funding is required.
Unwind already brings people together, the photo attached is of 2 ladies, both lonely, which effects their mental health. They have nothing in common and would never usually interact, however at a sit n stitch we run on Thursdays they met, assisted each other in a delightful project and are now great friends, and proud as punch of the project they completed together. We have many more stories like this, and great footage of the project they completed. Everyone needs to unwind - we have the right recipe, we just need financial help to make it happen.

Happy to support the Unwind Cafe, an oasis in suburbia where you can enjoy a cuppa and chat. This is the go to place for my friends and I to catch up and craft to our hearts content. We are so lucky to have such wonderful women that share their knowledge and kindness each time we visit.
Terrific project. I love knowing there is a place like this for yarn crafters to meet and work together. I hope this initiative is funded as the people who run the cafe deserve community support for what they provide. Having places to meet and do things is essential to the well being of many people and it relies on the good will and kind heartedness of those who provide it. Funds should be provided to support this essential community work.
It’s an inclusive space and allowed me to meet and make friends with some wonderful people. It would be wonderful if it were more affordable for vulnerable people in our community.
Brilliant shop cafe wonderful staff so much to offer,
Wonderful initiative and bringing the community together with great spirit - fantastic !
What a great initiative, wish more shops were as civic minded.
Good luck
Brilliant women, brilliant work!
A charming cafe where you will find lots of handmade clothes, goodies and gifts from those lovely local artist ladies.
Unwind has given me hope, inspiration and losds of woolies. I was hesitant at my first crochet knit night , but quickly found a great dafe place full of creativity and acceptance. Thankyou
Unwind is a place for people to connect, feel welcome and inspired. The community all benefit from an inviting space for creative wellness. With funding it opens the door for bigger and better things. Take time to Uniwnd today!
Love this unique little cafe, unassuming on the outside it is filled with love, laughter and the beautiful smells of home made cooking. Fabulous craft to make and buy and their lessons are an invaluable source of social interaction.
Knitting and crochet have both been found in several studies to have equivalent mental health benefits to meditation, as the quiet and repetitive movements are similar (with the added benefit of having something like a warm hat or scarf for someone in need at the end).
What a wonderful idea. I love Unwind and I totally support their idea. Crochet and knitting are wonderful therapy and socialising in such a pleasant location is great for your soul.
Love going to Unwind Cafe as they are so welcoming and always willing to help you with your craft problems. My knitting, crochet and spinning are my relaxation which we all need
A wonderful place of peace and inspiration. A vital part of the community.
Unwind Craft Cafe is a very important place for likeminded crafters to meet and engage in their creative passions. It was a godsend for me after I was made redundant from my job after 15 years. It allowed me to connect and engage with people in a confortable and nurturing environment and kept me focused while applying out for jobs.
Thanks for taking the time to comment. It is so nice to know all our hard work is helping our community.
I love the community feel of unwind cafe. The longer they are there the more opportunities will arise for this community to grow and suppprt each other.

Help us press the word.
For many, Craft is a lifeline in times of trouble; a fact well recognized by medical professional who often suggest "Learn to knit", "Learn to crochet", "Learn to [insert craft here]". But where does one go to "learn these skills"?
Unwind, that's where I'd suggest people go.
Unwind is a unique cafe that caters to fibre crafters among us by providing the best of yummy treats, the wall of color {Bendigo Woollen mills style}, classes in crafting from basic to advanced, and an atmosphere unlike any other with friendly staff, patrons who'll let you pull up a chair next to them and craft away, and some of the most exquisite hand made items to browse and buy.
The sense of community spirit that wraps around you when you walk in the doors is amazing, but, because Unwind is such an awesome place the staff at times are torn between the desire to help those who've been told learning to knit/crochet can help with coping with (and/or recovering from) life's traumas and maintaining a business. The staff do what they can but financial assistance from the "Pick My Project" program would allow them to help so many more people with affordable craft lessons and group crafty catch ups. The Thursday group catch up is a hoot and I regularly travel 20+km to go to Unwind because I know I'll leave feeling better...
I'd love to see these wonderful people receive recognition for the work they do in supporting the Keilor, and greater area, community. Come join us for a stitch and..... and craft your cares away.
Unwind is a magical place, full of yummy food, aromas, yarn, gifts and mostly friendly staff and patrons. Its sense of community spirit and ability to bring even non crafters together is a bonus. This ‘cafe’ is so unlike any other cafes in that it draws you in and keeps you there. Many friendships are made in this beautiful vintage style cafe. Love this place. Good luck!
Thanks for sharing the Unwind love, we hope to make it better. How nice would it be for every community to have an Unwind?
Unwind is just the most beautiful cafe' it serves a purpose to the community. Loneliness is a key to depression and we need more places in our suburbs for people to come and unwind. Congratulations and good luck. Keep up the good work. Book Lover
