Purchase and install an augmented hearing system for use at the new Hills Hub. This is to be available for all groups using the facility for meetings, classes and community gatherings.
U3A Emerald currently run over 40 courses/classes/activities. Many of these participants have varying degrees of hearing impairment. The intention is to cater for all members regardless of the degree of impairment. The system, whilst under the immediate control of U3A Emerald, will be made available to other groups who require such a facility.

U3A Emerald alone currently has over 300 active members. Many of the classes use audiovisual aids as part of their class materials. Most members are in the 65+ age group with varying degrees of hearing ability. The augmented hearing equipment will encourage those with hearing problems to participate in these community activities.
Other groups in the community have similar problems and this equipment will assist in making speakers and audiovisual presentations accessible to all.
Hearing impairment often leads to isolation from participation in the community. Our aim is to help minimise this isolation within our community here in the Hills.

It is a bonus, a considerate, wise, and forward-thinking suggestion for all future users of the Emerald Hub, particularly for those who need to augment their hearing.

Essential for many of us now, and a must for many in the years to come.
What better time than at the initial build of the new Hub

This project could be the 1st stage of keeping The Hub at the forefront of technical aides and communication technologies for the community and others.

I fully support this program to enable hearing impaired people to access learning.
