Cardigan Village, 15 kilometres to the West of Ballarat along the Avenue of Honour, does not have any retail outlets or hub for the community to come together for a casual coffee , to chat, engage, meet new neighbours or just spend some time. There is evidence that retail is not sustainable, so we wish to set up a community cooperative that will be focused on community building rather than profit. Staffed by community members, the coffee shop will operate out of an unutilized part of the local community centre.

Community building is our goal. Cardigan Village is attracting a number of new residents, with new homes being constructed daily on larger blocks, but 6 minutes by car from the nearest retail centre and having no public transport available. Children travel by school bus to the nearest schools or by car with parents. The community centre committee is actively engaged in promoting community events, including a Christmas event and a fortnightly visit by a burger van (well visited) but would like to see the community centre become a true hub for this growing community.
