Participation in sports such as tennis is severely impacted by many factors, including poor facilities. Extending our existing club-rooms would create an outside shaded social area and a viewing of the tennis from inside the clubrooms. This would make the clubrooms more suited to multi-user groups. The tennis membership is in excess of 600 players and 6300 holiday players visit our courts and as such many social events, involving the members and their friends are conducted at the clubrooms. The need for an outside, social recreation area and extended clubrooms, is regarded by community members to be particularly important.

Community expectations of sporting facilities is changing, demanding more, and must be met to attract and retain participants. The provision of welcoming clubhouse facilities promotes a desirable, positive club culture and encourages socially engaged people to play more sport more often. The added shaded and BBQ recreation area will significantly improve our clubhouse environment and associated facilities leading to more social interaction, passive activity and children’s play. Multiple user groups can use the facility for a greater variety of activities, whilst creating revenue options for the Club. The general health and well-being of community members will improve as a result.

This project is very important to the community of Point Lonsdale. Australians young and old benefit from community based sporting facilities. At Point Lonsdale there is a growing interest in the Tennis Club because it is extremely well managed by a motovated commity.
