By diverting food waste from local businesses and community to create a rich compost resource, we will enrich our market garden, and improve our living environment. Our food will be returned to the local economy and used to assist local charities and food banks to improve food security. This funding will be utilised to upgrade the 1.2ha of land we have been gifted at The Farmer’s Place with infrastructure and extend our cropping abilities. The garden will be accessible to community members, volunteers, schools, students and provide training, education and employment opportunities to disadvantaged community members.

This project will enrich our community in a multitude of ways. We will improve our environment by diverting food waste from landfill and composting it to provide a rich resource to grow fresh produce. This produce will then be returned to the local economy, providing economic and nutritional benefits. The garden will engage community, welcoming volunteers and providing vocational training opportunities for disadvantaged people. We will also advocate sustainable food supply, promote food nutrition and encourage greater food waste recycling by raising awareness of food security and the impact of food waste on the environment.

Very passionate about this project! I was involved in a similar project in Byron Bay and it was awesome!
Please vote for City Harvest to help kick start an amazing opportunity.
Thankyou.

Melbourne supermarket offering free food, donated rather than sending to landfill resulting from 40% of food wasted and sent to landfill....available for people in need, donations accepted...great concept.... could this project offer similarly in our local area & compost the rest perhaps?

Hi Kymm.m, Thank you for your interest and question. City Harvest is focused on working with local communities and food vendors to ensure that we create a circular food economy. There is no such thing as waste in this system. If it can not be eaten, it is put back into the ground to grow more food.

Hi Greg, thanks for this. We have just launched the 'Bag of Plenty' on the market with our partners, Closed Loop and Circular Food that is a slow release organic fertiliser made out of food waste. Support us and say no to wasting our valuable food resources by buying a Bag of Plenty for your garden. www.bagofplenty.com.au
