The Chinese Australian Oral History Project is a plan of my Project Partner, therefore, my project aims to:
- set up a studio with quality video and audio recording equipment for interviews, integrating books and audio-visual resources of oral history under one roof for the public;
- interpret and translate the recordings and archive material to make viewing and reading possible for our diverse community;
- get reading room facilities equipped for 50 seats for video shows.
It will also be used for academic research and education.
This year marks the 200th anniversary of Chinese immigration to Australia. My Project Partner is a library with one of the largest Chinese material collections nationwide. It has over 100,000 books and is located in Monash City, where almost 20% of local residents read Chinese. By sharing Chinese-Australian history collections publically, my project will benefit the local community in a way of understanding the life and culture of Chinese diaspora, so as to make a cohesive multicultural community. An inauguration ceremony will be held by the end of this project to encourage interactions between communities.

A very important and visionary project idea which should be implemented with urgency since many people who have rich local and historical knowledge are now quite old and fragile.
