Environmental management, regeneration and restoration cannot be accomplished without effective weed control. Chemicals are frequently used and applications often need to be repeated to ensure adequate control. This project proposes the use and promotion of an innovative and alternative organic method of weed control. STEAM! This will also lead to an overall reduction in human exposure to chemicals. Funds will be used to purchase the necessary equipment and to train community and agency groups on its safe and effective operation. Ongoing access to the equipment will be facilitated by the project partner.
The use of a chemical-free method of weed control will not only improve the health of our environment, but also our local communities. Continued exposure to chemicals is known to have a detrimental effect on human health and can also lead to: herbicide resistance, off-target impacts, water and soil contamination, amongst other things.
Chemicals are widely used in our public spaces and there is an up-swell of community concern around health and safety. Promoting, using and sharing an effective and safe alternative method of weed management will greatly benefit our community.
