The current cricket pitch has sunk below ground level. It regularly floods when it rains and the pitch width is an old narrow pitch. The width of the pitch is important especially for junior boys and girls as this promotes greater enjoyment for juniors to be able to land the ball on the pitch. Along with these two issues, the pitch surface is also in need of repair. Along with our club, the pitch gets used regularly during summer and over weekends by the community with many unofficial games taking place during the week.
The greatest benefit will be junior boys and girls starting out in cricket for the first time. A wider pitch increases the chance of the ball landing on the pitch, therefore increasing the enjoyment and confidence of junior players. Due to Melbourne weather, the pitch is regularly flooded, reducing the chances of cricket being played for all juniors and senior cricketers. It's important that we encourage young people to be active and involved in sport. A game of cricket shouldn't stop due to overnight rain.
