We plan to engage a landscape garden to design and supervise construction and the fitting out of an elevated vegetable garden. A variety of vegetables will be planted, but extra space will be provided for members to cultivate their own plots. The food will be savoured by all who contribute and any extra will be used in our on-site kitchen - where a registered charitable organisation provides cooking classes for young adults with disabilities to become more confident and self-sufficient. The garden beds will be raised for easy access.
Having an on-site vegetable garden will provide us with yummy, fresh vegetables. A communal area will be relaxing and help combat stress, as well as improving mental and physical health.
A garden will be a sanctuary in our busy urban environment. It will encourage community building and increase people's pride in their community.
For individuals it will help build self-esteem and introduce people to new friends with common interests.
This project will also be invaluable for adults with disabilities to learn how to grow and tend to edible produce.

I really like the idea of having a community garden because there are now so many units and apartments in the area with no backyard
