This project would provide safe off-road access for students and their families who attend Castlemaine Steiner School and Kindergarten, and users of Castlemaine Golf Course.

This project would connect with the recently completed Castlemaine-Maldon trail creating a ‘loop’ to this popular local and tourist attraction.

Other nearby facilities include Muckleford sports grounds and community halls.

The proposed trail would be designed and constructed in consultation with the Hub Foundation, Cyclesafe Mt Alexander, Ride2School, VicHealth’s Walk to School campaign, and potential events that promote access and enjoyment of the trail have been discussed (e.g. fun runs, Ride2School day).

This project would benefit the local community through improved physical health and more resilient mental health, particularly through modelling a healthy lifestyle to children and young people.

Other benefits would include enhanced connection to and appreciation of the local landscape throughout the changing seasons.

This project would benefit the local community through reduced dependance on fossil fuel transport and would demonstrate a sustainable transport alternative to a generation facing an uncertain climatic future.

This project would allow for increased volunteer participation in the support and maintenance of the trail and as such, would strengthen community connection through shared community values.

This project reaches more than the school, there’s a whole community of folks who live in Muckleford that this track would serve, as well as having another safe bike and walking trail for Castlemainians to use for fun/excercise. It creates a loop (via nice back roads) for the Castlemaine Maldon Trail too! Super idea Vaiya.

Thanks for your support Di. I get so nervous when I see children and their parents riding on the road to and from school. Children on bikes and cars driving 100km p/hr are not a good mix!

Thanks for your support Milo. I really believe all children should have the opportunity to safely ride to and from school. Wonderful for their sense of independence and general well-being.
