The Carlton Kitchen Equipment Library will allow it’s members to borrow larger and infrequently used kitchen items just as they would from a normal library. The library will be housed in a convenient location making it easy for people from across the community to access. It will be managed primarily by a roster of volunteers. Additionally, the library will have an online inventory so members can easily view items, reserve online, etc. Members will pay a minimal annual fee which will contribute to the project costs. Regular cooking workshops and community feasts will also be part of the initiative.

Located at the Carlton Public Housing Estate, the kitchen equipment library will be an excellent addition to the local share economy providing the opportunity for people with limited income and limited space access to an array of kitchen appliances and equipment. There are many kitchen items that we only use once in a while so it makes sense to share them rather than buy them. The project will also provide party packs with plates, cutlery and cups to help people avoid single use plastics and host workshops and meals to support people to increase their food skills and knowledge.
