Only 1 in 5 of us know our neighbours and many may feel disconnected to the community in which we call home. Research shows that being part of a community has a positive impact on wellbeing. Through the Carlton Corner project, we are creating an inclusive, accessible and welcoming space for community to come together.

The project will entail the building of a new classroom at Carlton Neighbourhood Learning Centre, creating new classes, workshops and events for all the community, with a focus on sustainability. Examples of activities, hosted by passionate local volunteers, include productive gardening, cooking, and waste reduction.

Capitalising on CNLC’s central location and vibrant community garden, residents of Carlton and surrounding neighbourhoods will be able to access open green space, meet new people, get involved in volunteering, and learn new ways to live more sustainably.

Through CNLC’s standing as a well-respected and well-established training provider and community organisation, the project will support and train volunteers from community organisations and groups to enable free use of the community classroom, with full access to the garden.

Carlton Corner will build on CNLC's important work and exciting vision to create a community that connects people, creates opportunity and challenges disadvantage.

This service does fantastic work for the local community and engaging people that would otherwise go unaided.
