This project aims to increase visitation and stewardship of the Reserve through collaborating with the Wurandjeri people to:
a) create an impressive entrance sculpture that engages the community with local indigenous culture
b) extend and enhance the existing indigenous food, fibre and medicine garden within the reserve
c) connect a) and b) by upgrading the existing walking trail for disability access
We also wish to grow the number of volunteers to assist with the protection of endangered flora and fauna.
Mostly local people visit the Reserve, plus school groups. Walkers, horse riders and cyclists are regular users for passive recreation.
The project area is a central reserve close to the township and is easily accessed by the local community and visitors. The project aims will broaden connections between non-indigenous and indigenous people through indigenous art installations, celebrate ancient relationships with the reserve, provide greater access to people of all abilities to the reserve and encourage people to connect with and care for nature through multiple mediums.
The project will further develop Bunjil's road map as outlined in an Interpretative Design Report (June 2016) by LookEar Pty Ltd.
