Working alongside refugees we constantly hear the same story – despite years of work experience in their own country and further training undertaken in Australia, nobody wants to employ them because they don’t have any Australian experience. Café Sunshine will close that gap by providing people with their first Australian job and reference. Partnering with refugee organisations, we will employ suitable candidates and provide them with the training and experience they need to go on to be successful in the hospitality industry within the wider community. Great food and great coffee for a great cause – what could taste better?
Café Sunshine will provide skills and training to people within the local community who have experienced difficulty in finding employment. We will continue to employ and support each staff member until they have successfully gone on to gain employment elsewhere. By providing the first stepping stone to employment, we aim to allow individuals, families and the wider community to prosper.
Cafe sunshine will be more than just a place of good food and coffee. We’ll be a community venue and a cultural hub – a place to hold book clubs, poetry readings, public talks and forums.

Good Luck! I can't wait to dine there!
Great project. Much needed. Good luck!
Brilliant concept. Good luck guys!
People need support to create a new successful life.
Great idea to assist new Australians find a foothold in our community and some work experience too!
Great initiative for young peeps who are looking for a job!! We need more opportunities like these!!
Brilliant!
Love this idea. Giving marginalised people a chance to work and develop skills in one of our city's most loved industries. Coffee and good food is intricately woven into the fabric of Melbourne, so it's a great place for people who are new to the country to be part of the community. I'll definitely visit there.
Fantastic idea!!
Great idea for a project the most disadvantaged in society to have an opportunity to develop skills that can lead to employment. Ultimately, everyone wants an opportunity to work.
A great idea and a great start in a new life for many.
This is an amazing & empowering initiative! I live far from Sunshine but will definitely make the trip to support it when (let's be positive!) it is realised.
I am confident that new migrants and people seeking asylum have tremendous resilience and demonstrated capability in changing the world around them for better. I fully support this initiative!
Great initiative, I facilitate accredited Hospitality training in Food Handling, RSA and Barista for women seeking asylum at ASRC Women's Empowerment Program, and I am looking for opportunities for women to do work experience or gain employment in Hospitality sector, this initiative will address this gap.
Great iniative!
A wonderful initiative to engage one of the most disadvantaged groups in our community. Great idea!
Very worthy social justice project ... Gets my vote.
Offers training & opportunities for a very marginalised group
Love the idea! Fingers and toes crossed for you guys :)
I know the food here will be great but the service the cafe will provide to the community will be inestimable and will create jobs and goodwill. Excellent initiative.
So ch a great idea. Directly supporting refugees providing training peer support and community engagement.
