Café connections: Young people in our community

Daylesford Secondary College students want to create an innovative café and performance space as a real life extension of current teaching programs. Situated within school grounds, students will build an interactive shipping container entertainment space alongside a mobile food café. The café space will be available for community use and mobilise to local community events. Café food will be prepared by students on site, sourced from school grown produce and neighbouring farms, providing our community with healthy food and drink choices. We wish to bring community together, enjoy healthy food and showcase local young talent through music, drama and art.

Using a social enterprise model, students will learn how to plan and run a business that connects them to their local community. Through supportive hands on learning, students will develop personal and work-related skills to improve confidence, future career opportunities and improve their health and wellbeing. Students will teach others in the community that healthy food is delicious and be recognised and celebrated for their capability in achieving a vibrant and sustainable business. Students will grow social awareness in the community by advocating for local causes that they believe are important and choose these causes to donate business profits.
