This program seeks to build resilience and safety within the community by teaching self-defence to children from 7 years old.
This is a grass roots program that will support other government programs that seek to reduce the impact of aggression and violence within our community. Classes will be offered free of charge to participants. The project will run for six months. Participants will attend a total of eight classes delivered twice a week. Classes will be run by two world class black belts with a combined experience of over 50 years, and two purple belts instructors.
Violence and aggression is rising in the community. Approximately one in four Year 4 to Year 9 Australian students (37%) reported being bullied every few weeks or more often (considered to be frequent) in a national study in 2017. In three out of four cases responded to by emergency services, children will be present. Our project seeks to prevent this violence and aggression occurring, victims need practical skills and techniques to de-escalate and manage situations when they occur; to protect themselves, their loved ones and their colleagues.
