Tribe Youth Theatre exists to provide more opportunities for secondary school age students to enhance their performance, technical and backstage skills in a community theatre environment. We operate a culture of collaboration, providing mentorship and a training ground for teenagers. Participation costs are kept as low as possible. We are centrally located and non-denominational. We draw participants from all the secondary schools in the region. We facilitate practical and technical workshops throughout the year and stage a drama in the Easter break and a major musical production during September school holidays.
Community theatre nurtures emerging artists, encourages participants to mingle with peers from other schools, builds friendships and support networks, teaches new skills and teamwork, empathy and consideration. We promote inclusivity, connectedness and the benefits of the performing arts to the (approximately) 15,000 secondary school students in Greater Bendigo. The participants are the heroes with adults providing mentorship and guidance so the students can star both on stage and backstage.
We saw a 114% increase in audition numbers after our first year. Tribe benefits individuals, their families, friends, schools, and the whole community benefits from a thriving arts culture.
