Lake Boort contains over 400 Aboriginal scarred trees bearing the markings of canoes, shelters, carrying vessels and cultural modification. As one of the most unique and significant Aboriginal cultural sites in Australia, an enormous opportunity exists to preserve and raise awareness to this important site, placing Boort and this important site on the map nationally and internationally.

This project will undertake the first critical stage: identifying and preserving key trees and sites in the region; and then developing world-class landscape design concepts (for boardwalks, shelters and interpretation) to create an engaging visitor experience for locals and visitors.

The realisation of this project will ensure this important site is saved for current and future generations, and create opportunities for locals and visitors to engage and appreciate this extraordinary treasure.

The design will consider bike and walking paths to improve access to Lake Boort and surrounding areas, as well as innovative storytelling to create an immersive and meaningful experience.

Through this work, access will increase for the wider recreational use and enjoyment of this exquisite natural and significant cultural environment, and opportunities created for local tourism operators and businesses to offer services to visitors.

We need to preserve this important cultural area, but we also need to show it off and use it to educate the wider community.
