WHY: Casey Council has consistently reported one of the highest number of family violence incidents among all Victorian municipalities. Empowering young children is critical to breaking the cycle of domestic violence and sexual abuse.

WHAT: Body Safety Education based in schools teaches children to take charge of their own personal safety and reduces their vulnerability to abuse

WHO: Primary School students, teachers, parents and community members within the Casey Council

HOW: Students in Prep and Grade 1-KidsROAR School Incursion-60min session per class
Teachers - Professional Development sessions
Parents and Community - Information sessions

WHEN: September 2018–August 2019

Casey council population is over-represented with children 14years and under. Protecting children from harm is a responsibility shared by parents, teachers and the wider community.

The KidsROAR program teaches children that ‘We all have the right to feel safe at all times’ and ‘We can talk to someone about anything, no matter what it is’, which is reinforced through educating parents, teachers and the wider community.

A Body Safety Education program delivered by fully trained, experienced educators to our children and community will be invaluable in equipping children to be better protected and safer.

My children have attended a KidsROAR session not only did they thoroughly enjoy it they were also came home and recounted everything they learnt and what they are going to do if they feel unsafe! Young children need this education.

I attended a KidsROAR parent session recently at my child's school. I am staggered by the Australian statistics on child abuse. This type of program needs to be in every Australian school. Good luck KidsROAR!!

With the Australian statistics of 1 in 5 children being sexually abused before their 18th birthday this program is an absolute must for our most vulnerable and precious... our kids.
Good on you kidsROAR!!!

What an incredible initiative. The statistics fully support this program, and we need to be proactive rather than reactive.

Great work, Kids Roar! You’ve got my vote.

This program should be funded for all schools, for all children, every single year throughout primary school. It is so important to educate our children about body safety so that we can keep them safe. It is something that needs to be spoken about consistently and repetitively. I sat in on a Kids Roar parent information evening this month and the statistics that they provided on children being harmed alone was alarming and shocking. The program is something that every parent should have the opportunity to listen to. It will help us help our children to keep them safe. The ladies of Kids Roar are hands down brilliant women with a lot of experience and need to be congratulated on all their hard work putting this program together. What they are doing is amazing and they need to be supported to bring their program to all our schools - all our children - every single year!
