This project provides essential improvements to the Birchip Community Leisure Centre, which currently maintains important facilities for seven sporting clubs. It offers a large meeting space used by the entire community. This project delivers multi-faceted enhancements of the facility identified as priorities by the community. A playground together with improved accessibility between recreational spaces will provide a safer, more family friendly space. The construction of disabled toilets will also take place. Repairs to the irrigation system of the main oval and installation of rabbit proof fencing will guarantee suitable playing surfaces for football, hockey, cricket, tennis, golf and school athletics.

The provision of an improved space that keeps the community connected is a keystone for the ongoing vibrancy and viability of Birchip. The project creates and enhances sporting and physical activity opportunities for youth right through to the elderly and supports the participation of families with young children. The project considers visitors to the facility/reserve ensuring accessibility issues are addressed with disabled toilet construction. Upgrades will reduce the current burden on volunteers who work tirelessly to maintain the current recreational reserve. This multi-facetted project is estimated to benefit over 500 local community members and a vast number of visiting teams.

The Leisure Centre and the Recreation Reserve are important community assets which benefit all sections of our local community through the hosting of sporting events, funerals, weddings, family reunions and numerous other functions each year. The quality of these facilities extends their usage beyond the local community as a venue of choice to the wider North Central Community. The facilities are a source of much pride to the local population and their continued maintenance and upgrade is essential to maintaining community spirit especially during tough times.

This is a great project for the benefit of 90% of the district. In dire need of money and money is hard to find. Lets all get behind this project and get it well up there in the voting to bring it to reality.
