Big Sky Films is a summer outdoor film festival in Trentham held at Quarry Reserve in the heart of the town over four weekends in February/ March 2019. A free, public festival-style event with food available for picnics from local caterers and local musicians. Big Sky Films shows national and international independent films exploring regional themes. The program will be professionally curated (ACMI) and show internationally acclaimed releases like ‘Frantz’ by celebrated director François Orzon, Bruno Dumont’s ‘Slack Bay’ or Miyazaki’s My Neighbour Totoro. Projected on a 5x3 metre LED screen, three films will be shown every Friday and Saturday.
Big Sky Films builds capacity and connections in small regional towns, offering a chance for our community to come together with people from surrounding towns and visitors. It offers a vital opportunity for people living in regional Victoria to engage with world-class arts where we live; educating and exposing ourselves, our children and communities to other stories and new perspectives.
Gathering together on summer evenings to watch international films in the heart of our town will lift our collective inspirations and aspirations for our relationships, accomplishments and lives.

Love this! Warm summer evenings under the stars, picnics, food, family, friends and FILMS! Community & Culture, yes!
While living in Darwin, which seemed a world away from everyone else we had outdoor movie nights ., during the summer months. this would bring the whole community together, which was imperative in small communities and isolated towns. These annual events were embraced with great enthusiasm, and through the arts would brings people together every year. a definite necessity and a wonderful project for our town.
Great idea.
Fantastic initiative! We need more creative community events just like this, especially those that bring together all age groups right here where we live - and with top quality cinema properly and professionally curated.
