All young adults have career aspirations, including those with a disability. They all have preferences for the work they would like to do, they all want to make a contribution, to have valued roles in the community and to belong. This project is about making those dreams come true for young adults in our community by supporting development of micro-businesses with equipment and back-end support. Their NDIS funding will provide onsite support to perfect their skills and build their client base. The micro-businesses will also offer work experience, training, and opportunities to contribute for other young adults.

Young adults with Autism and intellectual disabilities have the right to employment in their community, in areas of their strengths and interests. And not to be segregated away from all the wonderful opportunities; to be a positive participant, working, socialising and contributing in our community. There are three interests that occur most often, cooking, animal care and outdoor work. The project will purchase two box trailers with ramps and covers, mowers, whipper snippers etc, one dog grooming trailer, a van, coffee machine and four Thermomixes, to create four individual micro-businesses with up to 14 participants annually.

As a mother of a child with a disability, I can assure you there is a need for this project to be supported. My child is of working age and would love to be employed in an environment where he is accepted and his needs are accommodated for.
