Modeled on the highly successful Albury Wood Fired Oven, the Baw Baw Wood Fired Oven will be accessible to the public on scheduled firing days under the control of a trained and paid Oven Master. The oven could also be available for special events while it is regularly operated in the lead-up to Christmas through to Easter and then by arrangement. It would help in socialising the community over a focal community asset by inviting people of all cultures to bring and cook their foods.
Bringing community together using the common bond of food authentically cooked in a public space where culture - and food - can be freely shared is a positive towards cross cultural exposure and acceptance. While diversity in the community is encouraged, a publicly owned and operated asset such as a Wood Fired Oven brings cultures together - with food as the common element. It can also be the venue for cooking and bread baking courses and could support local businesses providing specialist catering and event facilities.
