There are current plans to re-develop the Bairnsdale Skatepark. Stage one of the project, which is the Skateable area, is currently in process. However the plans for stage 2 are still requiring funding.

Stage 2 will encompass the landscape, seating, shelter and lighting required to complete the park. The plan is for lighting over the skateable terrain and public seating, shelter and viewing areas. Pathways for safe access are planned from three street access points.
Finally the plantscape will wrap up the project, with members of the community chipping in plant native flora.

The benefits of this project range from public safety to creating an asset for not only the Bairnsdale and Gippsland community but also the greater skateboard, bike and scooter communities.

Public safety is number one priority. Research has shown safely lit public spaces create a safer environment for the space users including the riders, public and pedestrians. Lighting also increases the use of the space particularly in the winter months. Shelter will increase use, public safety and comfort. The pathways are designed for safe access for riders and pedestrians and provide wheelchair and disabled access. Plants are for our future!

A great use for an underutilised Shire asset. This facility promotes outdoor exercise and the interaction between all ages, genders and cultures by bringing together people to enjoy a common activity. This is a great location, highly visible, next to the all-abilities playground, close to the police station thereby providing parents with an increased level of comfort and well away from the multinational junk food outlets in town!

This site is very family oriented and has high visitation, further development of the site will compliment the oval and all abilities playground and create a hub for family use as people pass through our town. At present it value drops in winter months as in afternoon as the site becomes unfriendly and dark.

Much needed to provide a safe and positive environment for youth in Bairnsdale, especially beneficial for youth who are at risk of disengagement

Supporting projects that build facility for youth to be able to take part in physical activity will have a positive flow in effect for the community.
