Avenel Kindergarten and junior primary school grades are bulging and the need for an all year activity space for the younger demographic is essential. The Avenel Action group under the auspices of the Strathbogie Shire Council have been planning this activity space for a number of years after an approach by 4 Avenel youth made a representation to the group approx. 4 years ago. The Action group committed to supporting the implementation of a youth activity space to fill a need within the community not met by the traditional and seasonal football, netball, cricket and tennis team sports.
It will encourage a burgeoning younger demographic in Avenel to engage in non-organised multi use outdoor activities.
The precinct will be available 24/7 in a safe accessible all season location at the Avenel Recreation Reserve at no cost to the users.
This precinct will address the actions in the Strathbogie Shires Health and Wellbeing strategy.
This precinct will address some of the outcomes of the Avenel Recreation Reserve Masterplan.
Stage 1 of this youth precinct is currently self funded and this application is to complete the project.
Local engagement and fundraising has been an essential part of this program.

Not before time as this was spoken about to council approx.15 years ago when 3 of my children were involved in the Avenel youth group.

Every community needs to have facilities to entertain the young not only is it healthy the project becomes an asset that will be used by locals and visitors.

Avenel is a vibrant and growing community and like Nagambie is sadly lacking in kid friendly infrastructure. Anything that help families to spend quality time together, builds community bonds and helps economic growth gets my vote! Well done to the young people of Avenel for driving this project!

Love that this project has been driven & supported by the local youth. I was part of a similar drive in Nagambie several years ago & know only too well how long the process takes..my son is now 17..so congratulation Avenel Action Group, maybe Nagambie’s turn next round cos we’re still working on this for our youth. Gets my vote hands down😀

While this project probably won't affect me directly, it will benefit any young visitors I have but most of all it will benefit the young people of Avenel. The town is growing and many new arrivals include young people, thus it will attract more new residents and impact positively on the physical and mental health of youth already living here.
