Seymour has a rich military and rail history and a strong connection to the Goulburn River but something dark and gloomy sits right in the middle of town, a concrete rail underpass. It’s where Seymour's busiest arterial roads Anzac Avenue, Tallarook Street, Wallis Street and Station Street intersect. This underpass has not just one but three rail lines running above it. It’s a road and walkway underpass that connects the north and south of the town. It’s also the entry to Station Street which is the major town retail precinct. The underpass has long been an ugly eye-saw and attracts

The Art attack project will assist in creating town pride and help support town identity and a stronger sense of community. It will attract and improve visitor experience as well as deter vandalism. It allows access and appreciation of art as it’s outside of a traditional gallery with no barriers. The Art Attack project aims to turn the existing concrete underpass into an art installation incorporating street art and some well placed lighting to support safety and town vibrancy. The project will engage with community and street artist on a design that is representative of Seymour.

A wonderful project that will have long term benefits to the town of Seymour. Beautifying the extremely dirty and ugly underpass will create a wonderful site for tourists and give loxaks pride in their town.

This project would complement the Vietnam Memorial Walk, the Lighthorse park and contribute to further recognise Seymour's heritage and history. Great idea!

Great idea. Currently it is an eyesore to say the least and unpleasant to pedestrians and vehicles traveling through it.

It's a great idea to get this painted or a mural of something! Many people walk through that area, and its so depressing. Anyone on their way through Seymour to Yea, and the Murrindindi area or Mt Bulla etc, have to drive through it and how wonderful it would be if they could remember a beautiful and colorful art piece!

This could help brighten up an otherwise dull area of the Town. It is an opportunity to turn an eyesore into an attractive mural that we can be proud of.

It would be great to see what is an eye sore in our town to something that people comment about in a positive way. A great start to bringing our town up to the standard of many of the surrounding towns.

This is an urgent project that will help people feel good about their otherwise attractive Town . Self image is affected by our surrounds and the Seymour underpass is in a depressing state. Many visitors pass through this underpass and to convert it to an attractive focal point would encourage them to stop and spend money which helps the economy of Seymour

This would make something that is an eyesore to all local residents and visitors to our region into a focal point of interest. What a wonderful way to life the spirit and pride of those who live in Seymour.

I think this is an amazing idea! What a way to feature our wonderful town and make people really take a look and have another great talking point about "Seymour". Fingers crossed this project gets the funding needed to get this happening and we can all make a difference to the face of our community.

I would love for this tunnel to be painted in a beautiful mural of our local plants and wildlife in collaboration with one of Victoria's highly commissioned and professional street artists, such as Scottie Neoh (aka bonsai). As many locals know, Scottie was commissioned to paint the wattlebird on my shed next to our little cafe Hock the Ruby in Tallarook. This painting has become iconic and has made a landmark out of what was a dilapidated 100 year old shed. It references "Tallarook" being the indigenous term for "call of the wattle bird". At the time, the artist had been living in the Tallarook Ranges. His work is seen all around the country as far as Perth and as local as Bendigo. He often collaborates with local artists on projects. I think the unique plants, animals and geography of our region could be showcased in this work. It may also help to campaign the plight of the wildlife that is run over daily on our local roads. Not a day goes past that a wombat, echidna, phascogale, possum, koala, wallaby or kangaroo is not squashed on the road that this tunnel is on, the GV Hwy. Most of these are not fast moving animals it is simply that drivers are not looking out for them, looking carefully at the road in the dark. Soon there many be very few left.

First off hat's off to Bruce and James for inspiring interest in so many of us to vote for this project. Seymour and surrounds is a beautiful area just waiting to be discovered and there is a hint that this happening. With vision, enthusiasm and passion for our town we must get behind this project with gusto with and any other ideas that emerge. We want people who pass through our town to be impressed and for them to return to our area, this Project would certainly grab the attention of many. Creativity and vision is what Seymour is crying out for. So fingers crossed.
