An inclusive food growing hub for Abbotsford

This is an incredible opportunity to transform an empty block into a hub for growing healthy food, composting local food waste and educating residents around horticulture and sustainability. We want to create a welcoming space where everyone can come together to learn new skills and build friendships. The garden would put a particular emphasis on not just education, but around how to meaningfully produce food in an urban context including unusual and multicultural crops. Regular events in partnership with the City of Yarra will provide diverse ways for locals to get involved in the garden.

Despite the passion that people in Abbotsford have for home sustainability and growing their own food, there are really limited places to do so. Many people lack the space to have their own compost system or grow crops at home, or don't have the knowledge to get started. This garden space would be targeted at providing locals, including children, with a place to get hands on experience with food growing and composting. In this way, the space will bring the diverse community closer, provide great infrastructure for events and have a strong educational focus.
