The new all abilities board walk and lookout will connect the present sealed car-park and all abilities seating to the steps leading to the lookout overlooking the Blow Holes at Cape Bridgewater.
The new boardwalk and lookout will provide the opportunity for all to access to view and experience the dramatic coastline of basalt cliffs and on which the southern ocean crashes in rolling waves of white spray closeup.
These improvements will enhance the Great South West Walk walking tracks leading to the Petrified Forest, the Seals Lookout, the Springs and Bridgewater Lakes for thousands of visitors.
Community need is for improved access for all, including wheelchairs, to access the dramatic coastline of the Blowholes at Cape Bridgewater.
Improved access will reduce the risk of injury of walking on a very eroded track leading from the sealed car park and interpretative area to the steps leading to the lower lookout on the cliffs.
The project is envisaged to increase tourists numbers, providing an economic benefit to the community of Cape Bridgewater and the City of Portland.
This is consistent with the objective of providing better access for all by Parks Victoria and the Glenelg Shire Council.

The erosion at Cape Bridgewater is terrible when I first went there I couldn't believe how the lack of indigenous native groundcovers, shrubs and trees weren't planted to assist with stopping the erosion of this area. I was advised by a local concerning the hessian bags where seed had been placed in it to assist with keeping the soil on the coast which of course it hasn't. The area is eroding as the Blow Hole has even had fallen rocks in it. A Coastal plan of this area is urgently required to with appropriate plantings to retain the soil preventing wind, wave and soil subsiding into the sea.

For people consigned to limitation of experience due to physical disability, the opportunity to commune with the mighty force of the Southern Ocean from this awe inspiring vantage point, would enable access to transfixing moments of wonderment.
Whether it be the young for whom the challenge from physical restrictions is profound, the elderly who are frail or struggling with mobility, this project initiative would provide a restorative experience and indelible memory.
The project would present a popular new dimension to the tourism experience of this wondrous attraction.
