As school and Ministerial land is expected to be leveraged for ever increasing and collaborative community needs, ensuring that school facilities can capably provide for those needs and the valuable relationships and utility they support is essential. Projects like these seem like simple mono purposed solutions, but in fact they present multi-purposed opportunities for greater utilisation by the whole community, let alone the school. It is a small investment that will derive great social capital returns.

Brunswick East Primary School wants to open its gates to the wider community outside school hours. While the school has a small oval, playground, nature play, a basketball court, tennis walls, down ball courts and table tennis tables, many of the facilities require renewal to improve safety and usage. To do this we need to resurface the basketball court, cover the basketball court (for lighting and weather protection), improve the oval and update the play equipment.
Moreland City Council is supportive of this idea and has offered a Joint User Agreement which will assist with changes to fencing and maintenance.
The area of Brunswick has a growing youth population (Forecast ID 2018) and a shortage of open green space and recreational facilities (Moreland Council 2017 Park Close to Home Framework). The all-weather cover and lighting on the basketball court will provide a needed addition to the infrastructure of the area. Also, the fenced nature of the grounds means that young children are kept safe.
There are several major apartment developments under way in the Brunswick East area. These developments will increase the provision of outdoor recreational outdoor spaces for young people.

With ever increasing population densities in Brunswick East we need more community access to the existing infrastructure. This is a great idea.

Go BEPS! Good luck with this great project :)
Can't wait to see the school grow with its community...we will be playing for sure!
This would be so beneficial to our community- let’s do it

Please support!
This would make a lot of little people very very happy :)
Great to see schools willing to maximize their resources for community use after hours. It just makes sense
Great for school kids and the wider community !
Great Project 👍
Yes please! Opening up Brunswick East PS to the wider community is such a fantastic idea, the school and the community will both benefit so much from this initiative. There aren't many sunsmart places to do sports in the area so this will be great for older kids, and younger kids will love nature play in the schoolgrounds.
Yes please. super idea. W
Is much needed for this school and its children and local residents.
Awesome idea to open up the school as at the moment it is off limits to the local community after hours due to the high fences and locked gates. The revived basketball court, play area and oval would be magnificent both for the school and the wider community.
Fantastic project that will benefit not only the school but foster the connections with the local community
Makes a lot of sense! Great idea.
I support this project

This is exactly what Brunswick East Primary needs for it's growing student population and for a growing local community of young families and children. The SunSmart aspect of this project is really important too.
