The Yarram pool is so cold, it's too cold to swim in, even during most of summer! This means the pool is only open on a few really hot days each year.
This project will use the solar system on the roof of the adjacent Hub building to warm the water and trap that warmth under pool blankets.
Every member of our community will enjoy equal access to a warm local pool, whether for swimming lessons, fitness, hydrotherapy or recreation.
This is the first step towards a year-round pool and Wellington Shire has signed an MOU in support.
Warming the Yarram pool will make an enormous difference to many members of our community.
Rather than being forced to take a 2-hour return trip for swimming lessons, the district's children will be able to learn to swim locally, with potentially life-saving consequences.
Mature locals and sporting clubs will enjoy the fitness benefits of a pool that is open regularly, and disabled community members will finally be able to take advantage of the superb yet idle access facilities.
Finally, a heated pool will provide healthy entertainment for young people and strenthen our community.

Let’s make this happen and improve our kids opportunities to be more water safe!
At present local people have to travel for an hour to take children for swimming lessons. It will be so much better for parents to access the local pool and not spend so much time on the road.
Been talked about for many years, really needs to happen
Long overdue
This would be a great idea. Not only would it mean that swimming lessons could be held in Yarram, rather than parents having to travel far distances for lessons, they could be held at Yarram. It also means that the pool could be used all year round, and considering there isn't many things for teens to do in Yarram, it would be good to have the pool open. It also promotes exercise, as people could get up for a morning swim and whatnot. It would also create a few more job opportunities for life guards, and for teachers for swimming lessons. Overall, having a heated pool would be a great idea!
must neede
Many older people require hydrotherapy to stay healthy. Yarram has an increasing population of retirees. QED.
Great idea
awesome project for young and old
I believe that if there was a heated pool in Yarram that could be used all year round that a lot of people would use it. Personally I would like it to be warm enough to be used for hydrotherapy.
Absolutely needed as a community facility. Apart from the obvious importance of extended 'learn to swim' times, the health benefits to those requiring rehab for injuries and fitness cannot be measured. The cost to travel on a regular basis to either Sale, Traralgon or even Toora, for heated pool exercise and rehab is prohibitive to many and out of the question for those without transport. This project represents an essential benefit to all of the community in the Yarram district.
Families won't need to travel to Sale, Traralgon, Leongatha or Toora for lessons...greater access for all year round. Better health, fun entertainment, wide selection of community members and clubs can benefit.
A necessity for our town ,given we have a wide range of ages, and the need for water based fitness, rehab, learn to swim classes etc.
Extending the use of our pool would benefit the whole community - lessons, schools, fitness programmes, physio, rehab, the list goes on.
Brilliantt!
This is a great idea to use an under-utilised leisure resource during the cooler months. School, sporting and social events could continue through the year.
What a great idea and very popular!

Heating of the Yarram pool should be treated as a priority, particularly for the swim training of children and adolescents, and low-impact exercise and water aerobics for the elderly. Currently, the pool lies dormant for around seven months of the year, which is a complete waste of a valuable ratepayer facility.
The current high trigger point for its opening is a BoM forecast of 25C for that day, which even in warmer weather often means the pool remains closed. In light of this figure, it should be noted that the average December maximum temperature is 23.3C in Yarram.
