These art works are fabulous - and a great artscape initiative for Paynesville.

Paynesville's vibrant fishing history began in 1879 with the settlement of the Toonalook camp overseen by its namesake, Captain Payne. This colourful public artwork is a tribute to the many men and women who have served this important industry, and shaped the fishing village of Paynesville into a leading tourism destination on the Gippsland Lakes. Designed and constructed by local iconic artist, Brendon Sims, the construction will feature a range of kinetic 2D and 3D elements with the high mast as its foundation, the moon atop to represent tidal movements, and below the cormorants overlooking a boat with circling fish.
Situated on a prominent promenade overlooking the Gippsland Lakes with a vantage point seen far beyond the shoreline by visiting boats, this public artwork will become a key feature of the township for locals, domestic and International visitors. East Gippsland attracts 1.3 million visitors each year, with the Gippsland Lakes and neighbouring Raymond Island key attractions. This eye-catching design will provide opportunity to educate the visiting public about the maritime history of the region. The project will also provide part-time employment during the construction phase for up to four people with a disability, helping build their experiences for future employment.

Will be a brilliant addition to the iconic Paynesville foreshore
A great initiative to keep our history alive and forefront in the minds of local residents.
Should be good to see if this happens. Fishing has been in the lakes system for years
It will be great to see this evolve. Paynesville is such a great town & our history should be celebrated
This is another opportunity for Brendon, a long time resident of Paynesville to continue to make a great contribution to the arts/cultural environment of East Gippsland.
Brendon Sims has already done excellent projects around Paynesville and this latest project will be informative and visually great, exactly what the town needs.
Brendon continues to add to the cultural heritage of East Gippsland with his very significant body of work

Great addition to public space in Paynesville, vivid reminder of the history and 'roots' of the town.
