A simple and sustainable idea; connecting local restaurants to bring joyful experiences to hundreds of vulnerable people by doing what they do best preparing and serving beautiful food.
Five restaurants at South Melbourne Market, K_y, Claypots Evening Star, Simply Spanish, Bambu and Paco y Lola, have committed to preparing in-kind quality meals for up to 100 people each month. The project creates volunteering opportunities and is open to local community services to invite people who would otherwise not have the chance to experience sharing food and conversation in a safe and inviting space that promotes inclusion, self-esteem and community connections.
A Beautiful Food Experience project will:
- Create memorable and meaningful opportunities to participate in events for people who are experiencing social isolation and challenges due to financial hardship, mental health issues, disability, race, religion or ageing.
- Increase the confidence and happiness of individuals who participate and their sense of belonging, self-esteem and community connectedness.
- Create a sustainable model for meaningful change in the local community through local restaurant collaborations and a model that can be replicated in other local communities in the future.
- Help build a safe and active community.
