2019 WYNDHAM INTERNATIONAL FOLKFEST

This is a free family-oriented, one-day event to highlight Wyndham City's dynamic, energetic and resilient multicultural community.

Cultural diversity increases every year in this western part of Melbourne, with new residents bringing with them different languages, faith traditions, food and customs, which further enrich Australia’s culture and history. We value the fact that these migrants brought with them a keenness to study, to establish businesses, and to work hard. Those for whom English is not their first language, show an enthusiasm for learning English and other cultures while keeping some of their valued traditions.

Aside from physical stress, results of some studies show that many long-time residents and migrants also suffer from various emotional and mental issues due to loneliness and social isolation. One African woman lamented: “I am a bird without wings!”

This community project proposal aims to address the challenges that face many migrants, by providing employed migrants with work-life balance, and to give everyone, whether working or not, those who just arrived and those who have long lived here, the opportunity to relax and have an enjoyable day of music and dancing while learning other people's cultures.
